Falling fuel costs, increased recycling rates and a cut in energy usage have helped a Rochdale-based communications provider establish themselves as a pioneer in plans to decarbonise an entire industrial estate.

MID Digital Solutions is now urging other companies based at Stakehill Industrial Estate to embrace the benefits of a more environmentally friendly approach to business and get involved in the Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan (LIDP).

Danny Simpson, chief executive of MID Digital Solutions, said: “We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring sustainable practices.  Continuing to expand upon the solutions implemented in 2015 by our sister company MID Communications, initiatives include LED lighting, smart technology, device recycling programmes, implementation of sustainability officers at board level, paperless operations, electric vehicles, green energy, and installation of energy efficient boilers and solar panels.”

The largest independent franchise of O2 in the North-West, MID Digital Solutions provides mobile communications, cloud telephony, and internet connectivity to business customers across the region.

Quickly seeing the benefits to their business, staff and the environment they have contributed to a case study highlighting their journey – hoping to encourage other Stakehill tenants to access valuable resources, forge partnerships, and contribute to a more sustainable future as part of the LIDP.

Danny added: “Seeing significant savings in fuel costs, increased recycling rates and reduction in energy usage, we are incredibly proud of the changes we have made and the culture of sustainability we have created at MID Digital Solutions.

“Much more than a tick box, we are determined to continue to implement the right practices and processes for the benefit of our staff, community, and environment.”

Stakehill Industrial Estate is undergoing a transformative journey towards sustainability, driven by a consortium of stakeholders including Rochdale Development Agency, Stakehill Business Improvement District (BID), SSE Energy Solution, the Energy Innovation Agency, Rochdale Borough Council, the University of Manchester, and asset owners UBS.

Together, they are developing a Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan (LIDP) aimed at enhancing the strategic longevity and competitiveness of businesses within the estate.
