With the July 19th unlocking in England now seemingly set in stone, Rochdale-based recruitment agency Northern Employment Services is organising a series of free events to help businesses, employees and job seekers prepare for the post-lockdown world of work.

Chief among them will be the company’s next open day, to be held at Rochdale Football Club on Wednesday 14 July.

This will be an opportunity for anyone seeking work - and for employees still on furlough who feel insecure about the future - to meet the team and get valuable advice on CV writing, interview skills and readjusting to the workplace in the aftermath of lockdown. Further open days are planned for August and September.

In addition, the company is partnering with Rochdale Borough Council on a series of virtual sessions focused on employees and job seekers in different sectors, starting with manufacturing. The first session will be held on 7 July and will then run every three weeks.

Northern Employment Services Operations Director Kirsty Wilkinson said: “Both of these initiatives come under our #hiringthenation banner and they’re about helping people understand the skills they have and how those skills transfer to other job titles, as well giving people confidence to go back to the workplace after such a long time away.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty around at the moment, with people losing jobs because of the pandemic and many of those still on furlough fearing for the future,” Kirsty continued. “That’s why these events are well timed. Come along and talk to us about anything to do with returning to work or any fears you may have about returning to the workplace.”

Northern Employment Services also arranges seminars with partners like HR specialist Peninsular Group to offer Health and Safety and HR advice to local businesses. Last month the company joined with Rochdale Borough Council and training provider Rochdale Training to offer virtual training on mental health in the workplace for managers and HR professionals.

“Mental health in the workplace is another area we’re focusing on because many of us are starting to head back to workplaces and for many people it’s quite a fearful time,” said Kirsty.

Both Kirsty and owner/director Philip O’Hara are members of the Rochdale Ambassadors, a business group created to promote Rochdale Borough as a great place to live, work and invest.
