Rochdale businesses take centre stage at annual awards ceremony

Rochdale’s thriving business community gathered at Rochdale Town Hall on Friday for the 11th annual Rochdale Business Awards.

Paul Simkiss, Rochdale Development Agency board member and owner of Simkiss Controls Limited, welcomed guests to the glittering event which returned to the Great Hall following its stunning refurbishment.

He said: “It was a privilege to open this year’s Rochdale Business Awards and celebrate the remarkable businesses in our borough that embody innovation, collaboration, and a forward-thinking spirit. The event highlighted the dedication and talent that make Rochdale an outstanding place to live, work, and thrive. It was a fantastic evening, showcasing some truly exceptional finalists.”

The awards ceremony and gala dinner has become a go to event within the Rochdale business community, with over 300 guests, finalists and sponsors coming together to recognise the achievements and contribution that they each make to the borough.

In total, nine trophies were presented, with all 27 finalists, from a broad range of sectors including manufacturing, retail and hospitality, education, care and construction, receiving a framed certificate on stage.

Cheers erupted and emotions ran high as videos of the finalists lit up the big screen. The excitement peaked when the golden envelope was opened to announce the winner of each category. The celebrations carried on late into the night at the lively after-party hosted at The Flying Horse Hotel.

This year’s winners were:
• Community Engagement – Life Changing Education Ltd
• Independent Hospitality or Retail Business of the Year – The Hair Growth Studio
• Apprentice of the Year – Phoebe Crossley, Rochdale Health Alliance
• New Business of the Year – Meadows Psychology Service
• Business Person of the Year – Chris Craven, Forrest Fresh Foods Ltd
• Apprentice Employer – NEMA Ltd
• Business of the Year (turnover under £1m) – The Funky Deer Sports Club Merchandise
• Business of the Year (turnover £1 - £5m) - MysonPages
• Business of the Year (turnover more than £5m) – Salt Separation Services

Councillor Neil Emmott, Leader of the Council, also shared how Rochdale borough has much to be proud of. He said:

“Our borough continues to lead the way in innovation and growth, from the development of the Atom Valley Mayoral Development Zone to the regeneration of our town centres. These successes, including new high-tech research facilities, major job creation, and cultural investments, are a testament to the power of collaboration across our community, partners, and businesses.”
