Rochdale is a town brimming with hidden and not-so-hidden gems—a place of culture, creativity, and pride where people work together to make good things happen. From the magnificence of the Town Hall to the stunning countryside and parks, from intimate grass root music nights to lively family festivals, and from local theatre productions to museums packed with the boroughs rich history, Rochdale has it all.

However, there’s always more to discover and celebrate across the borough, and that’s where our new Culture and Placemaking team steps in. With a mission to amplify Rochdale’s cultural heartbeat and provide residents with the tools, expertise, and inspiration they need to thrive, and furthermore give those who live here and visit us unforgettable experiences.

The team facilitates the development of creative hubs like Richard Street Studios, promotes arts and culture, and organise a diverse calendar of events. They believe in listening to the community and turning their ideas into reality. This collaborative effort enhances our surroundings, attracts visitors, supports local businesses, and reshapes perceptions of Rochdale.

Crucially, they will engage our young people by providing opportunities for involvement in the arts and culture, helping them develop valuable skills and career pathways. Working with schools, colleges, and local businesses, they are harnessing external partnerships such as Factory International, the organisation behind Manchester International Festival and the Royal Exchange Theatre to transform great ideas into incredible experiences.

The goal is simple: to ensure that culture in Rochdale boosts well-being, fosters economic growth, and makes our town an even better place to live, work, and play.

The teams work promised something for all cultures, ages and demographics, all made possible with funding from Arts Council England, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Department of Culture, Media and Sports.

Over the coming weeks we will be introducing the new team that are bringing the creative sector and visitor economy to life and working with the bars, café, eateries, visitor attractions and retail offering across the borough together to create a thriving, energetic and sustainable offering to both residents and visitors to Rochdale.
