Ground Breaking website for the arts is launched

The creative community from across the borough of Rochdale came together in the Bright Hall, Rochdale Town Hall to celebrate the launch of Rochdale Creates, a website made by creatives for creatives.

The website is a tool for the creative community to share with the wider world the events which they are taking part in or supporting, share the opportunities which exist for employment, training opportunities and to access funding.  There is also contains an extensive ‘What’s On’ section of the website where the public can find out about events.

The website has been desperately needed for a number of years and thanks to the tenacity of Rochdale Borough Council and their success in gaining funding from Arts Council England and DCMS via Rochdale’s CDF2 Project, the Culture and Placemaking Team at the RDA delivered the project and the dream became a reality. Sound Roots, based in Rochdale manage and update the website.

The key note speaker for the event was Councillor Sue Smith, portfolio holder for Communities and Co-operation, she gave an impassioned speech about the power of arts and culture to transform lives recognising the value and the impact that the artists and arts organisations have on the socio-economic prosperity of the borough. 

Following the event Councillor Sue Smith said:

“Arts and culture are critical to the success of any place and in Rochdale we are blessed with an abundance of artists, supportive organisations and spaces that allow the benefits of the arts to be realised. Rochdale Creates is another string to our bow to shout even louder about what we have to offer. We will continue to provide rich creative learning opportunities to help build confidence, resilience and skills in not just the next generation of Rochdalians but all Rochdalians”.

Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Shakill Ahmed was also at the event and urged everyone in the room to sign up to the website and help the borough of Rochdale to tell the world what an amazing place Rochdale is to live, work, play and visit.
