CREATE Rochdale selected as finalist at the Northern Cultural Education Awards 2024

Local Cultural Education Partnership CREATE Rochdale has been selected as a finalist in the Inspirational Local Partnership Award category at the Northern Cultural Education Awards 2024.  Celebrating the arts, culture and creativity for young people in and out of school, the awards programme aims to shine a light on best practice, innovation and activism in the field of creative and cultural education across the North of England. 

The awards’ 20 judges are reviewing over 150 nominations across 7 categories and the winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Friday, 24th May, at The Edge Arena in Wigan.

CREATE Rochdale is a network of organisations and individuals who represent the education, youth and the arts and culture sector in the borough of Rochdale, and aim to ensure that all children and young people living here have access to a high quality cultural education.  This year the partnership worked with Rochdale Borough Festival of Ideas in March, giving 1,850 local school children the opportunity to generate 10,000 brilliant ideas, which were displayed as part of a giant sculpture at Rochdale Town Hall during the festival.

Rochdale has begun its journey of cultural activism, changing the way the residents, communities and visitors to Rochdale experience and engage in culture and the arts, the packed and evolving cultural offering bringing a new lease of life to the borough.

Continuing to embrace the pioneering spirit that is in the DNA of the borough, Rochdale Development Agency has partnered with a number of organisations including the CREATES Rochdale; Cartwheel Arts; the Royal Exchange Theatre and Manchester International Festival. These collaborations are enabling the delivery of inclusive, innovative and engaging events, from live grass roots music, pop up events and a packed and ever evolving events calendar bringing a new lease of life to the borough.  Promising something for all cultures, ages and demographics, all made possible with funding from Arts Council England, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and the Department of Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS). 

Supplementing ongoing investment and plans for the boroughs high street offering, tailored support for the hospitality sector, in particular the early evening and night time economy, and provision for growing creative industries with initiatives such as Richard Street Studios.  All coming together to boost the boroughs’ economic growth and make Rochdale an exciting place to live, work and explore!
