BID Plans underway at Stakehill
Posted by on 8 Oct 2020
Businesses at Stakehill Industrial Estate are developing a Business Improvement District (BID) for the estate, to go to ballot in 2021. Business Improvement Districts are business led partnerships to deliver additional services to local businesses. They can be a powerful tool for directly involving local businesses in local activities and allow the business community and local authorities to work together to improve the local trading environment.
The team behind the BID proposals are aiming to give the businesses on Stakehill more influence over issues which impact upon their ability to operate effectively in Stakehill
Martyn Barrow, the Stakehill BID Steering Group Chair, represents MID Communications which has been based on Stakehill for three years, after relocating from Oldham.
Martyn said: “Stakehill has great access for all of our employees and visitors that come to our HQ. Over the past three years we have built up some great relationships locally and when we were approached to be involved in the Stakehill BID we saw this as an opportunity to improve safety, provide more choice in amenities and improve the environment for our employees and attract future employees.
“I look forward to seeing these come to fruition over the next few years and it would be great to have local businesses supporting and being involved with the Stakehill BID.’
The Steering Group for the BID is encouraging all business on the site to get involved in the development of the BID Business Plan to make their views known, to ensure that the plan which goes to ballot in February next year truly reflects everyone’s views to deliver improvements for businesses in Stakehill industrial Estate.
Tom Park of Asset Managers Canmoor added: “Whilst it’s a difficult time for many businesses, we have been supporting our occupiers, keeping the health and wellbeing of occupiers and their employees at the forefront of our minds. It has also sharpened our focus and in highlighted the benefits that a BID would bring to Stakehill, particularly in times such as these. This supports the trend we’re seeing amongst occupiers for more collaborative working with neighbouring businesses and how this increased communication can lead to business growth.
“Over the next few months, the true effects of recent events may be felt more acutely – with rent payments due and government schemes closing or support reducing. But we expect the logistics and distribution sector will continue to require the space Stakehill provides – as we’ve seen recently with one of our longest standing tenants increasing their lease terms and showing commitment to Stakehill for the next ten years.
“We all hope that businesses in the North West have the resilience to return to pre-COVID trading levels and that the thriving regional economy we saw in early 2020 is restored.”
It is anticipated that the BID will make a major contribution to supporting the businesses in the recovery and the post COVID world. Businesses from Stakehill can get involved in the BID by joining the next open forum event on Wednesday 14th October at 12noon. To book your place at this event please click here
